I contacted Crockpot customer service on November 13, 2018 about the fact that our 4 month old 4-quart Crockpot wouldn't turn on. Model # SCCPVP400-S.

I chatted with Ethan who at first said he would send a replacement. That was awesome until he asked for the number on the plug. Apparently my 4 month old Crockpot was out of warranty????

I was flabbergasted to say the least. I know my paperwork when I opened the box in August of 2018 said it was a 1-year warranty. I sat quietly waiting for him to make the correct response about replacing the pot. I had used the pot 3 times. The first time it worked like a dream. Second time I turned it on and an hour later didn't notice any yummy smells....it had turned off. I restarted it and our meal was again tasty. Then on the 3rd try I couldn't get the power button to stop blinking and tried several suggested "tricks" to no avail.

Ethan put me on hold and came back to say that since I no longer had the receipt they would SELL me a new one! Unacceptable. The only other option he gave was to dispose of the defective Crockpot.

My husband is a recycler and my son loves electronics so they did an autopsy. It appears that our pot had the wrong capacitor which was rated for 105 degrees Celsius in an appliance that exceeds that temperature. Sure enough....it had blown up!

I believe we used the Crockpot 2 times correctly and it wasn't out fault that it failed the third time. I also believe that if you haven't corrected this issue, there will be many more failures. I'm bringing this to your attention in hopes of a new replacement Crockpot - but more importantly so that you have hopefully corrected the problem in this and all other models.

I've attached a photo of the capacitor. If Ethan had just told us you would send us a replacement capacitor....or suggested we replace it ourselves (which my son could have done) maybe I'd recommend your company to others. But he said "dispose" of it and by the time we found the issue, it was beyond repair.

Christmas is coming and I pray you have remedied this capacitor issue. Enjoy your holidays: Thanksgiving (when I was planning to use the Crockpot) and Christmas (probably then too.)
